Biased Presentation
[edit]I agree that Liguori is an important character. I have come to this article looking for neutral information but was disappointed: the article reads like an apology and dwells largely on an adoring view. Assorted links could help to look up what is meant by a Catholic Saint, a Doctor of the Catholic Church, a Catholic "spiritual writer", a Catholic Congregation, etc. In the Catholic Encyclopaedia Liguori is presented in extenso with no pretense to be neutral; the corresponding external link is missing. --Lupo Manaro 09:52, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- It might help if you would elaborate on what 'neutral information' would be, or what is problematic about this content other than lacking definitions of terms that are common in Christian scholarship. I think it is straightforward to look up terminology, e.g. by simple Internet searches. -- Newagelink (talk) 09:07, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
Saint Alphonsus' cassock
[edit]I'm curious, on some pictures of Saint Alphonsus, why are his cassock and mozzetta blue? I'm pretty sure that blue was never a colour for cassocks -- only white, red, purple and black were permitted. I thought it might be the colour of Saint Alphonsus' order's habit, but I don't think the CSSRs ever had blue. Saint John Neumann was a bishop too, and all I've seen him in was either a black cassock (I think it's a Jesuit-style cassock?) and the black Bishop's cassock.J.J. Complete name
[edit]Alphonsus Mary Antony John Cosmas Damian Michael Gaspard de' Liguori ...should his complete name be in the article? It's in the italian wikipedia.

Case of bilocation
[edit]Why isnt the incidence of bilocation, reported here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ mentioned in this page? It seems like such a miracle should be mentioned someplace in the article.
- Sorry to reply as many as 14 years later, but to be clear, this anonymous internaut has linked to the homepage of Wikipedia. Let anyone with a source for claims of Liguori's bilocation make the appropriate edit! TywysogMelyn (talk) 12:35, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Alphonsus Maria de' Liguori → Alphonsus Liguori – Per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:USEENGLISH, the common name for the saint is simply Alphonsus Liguori in the English-language literature. See the N-grams [4] for evidence here. The current title is not found at all in the English corpus, and while the usage of Maria is sometimes found in titles of books, the n-gram usage makes it very clear the the preferred English here is simply Alphonsus Liguori. The addition of saint would be unnecessary because he lived at a late enough time where he can clearly be established by his first and last name in English without the honourific.
